Food, Drink & Tabletop Prop Styling for BOHL
CLIENT
BOHL
THE ASSIGNMENT
To produce a comprehensive collection of brand imagery that will serve as a visual foundation for BOHL’s 2026 launch. This curated library of images will play a crucial role in launching their new restaurant concept, providing a cohesive and visually compelling set of assets that captures the essence of the brand and supports its marketing, promotional, sales efforts, as well as populate their proprietary ordering app with images.
Over the course of several shoot days, food and lifestyle photographer Mary Lagier and I covered all aspects of production including photography, food styling, drink styling, prop styling, creative direction, wardrobe styling, talent management, and post-production.
The shoot resulted in singular ingredient shots, artistic macro ingredient shots, simple prepared bowl and salad shots, artistically styled bowl and salad shots, and lifestyle shots incorporating models.
Dark and neutral backgrounds with modern and minimal props were used to both differentiate BOHL’s branding from its competitors (Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen and Washington D.C. / Brooklyn-based Cava) and to keep visual focus on the food.
The menu features hearty, healthy leafy salads and hefty, nourishing warm rice bowls layered with grilled proteins, fresh vegetables, and an array of toppings—from cheeses, grains, and beans to bright pink pickled onions. Housemade sauces and dressings tie it all together, alongside iced refreshments and crisp herby pita chips with grilled sourdough slices.
The visual direction is modern, exciting, fresh, and bold—anchored by beautiful, saturated, vibrant color. Every frame highlights the quality, color, and texture of both the composed dishes and the singular ingredients that build them. Crisp, hard light brings high clarity and contrast, casting prominent shadows while keeping the subject beautifully illuminated. The result evokes an environmental ambiance that feels warmly inviting yet slightly dark—balanced, dimensional, and full of mood.
